DIGITAL NATURE is an interdisciplinary research that aims to rethink digital tools in the context of social isolation. Landscape painting is used as a result medium.
The process starts with walking trough natural areas of the planet using Street view of online maps, in search of landscape images, captured as screenshots and then painted. Digital hiking simulates the 3D experience of place and landscape is presented as a stimulating experience of nature. Although the urge to search for natural images online came from our restricted movement situation, we found comfort in this window-like access to nature, and a ludic connection to video games and futuristic representations.
The result is a series of paintings that aim to break the prejudice against the use of the digital. This images still include some of the symbols and marks of online maps, integrated in the nature scenes, paying tribute to their origin.

Each painting is accompanied by a soundscape piece created specifically for each place by the sound artist Jose del Palo.

As an interactive object, scanning a QR-code, viewers are encouraged to find the places represented in the paintings using Google’s street view. From there they can continue to wander the digital nature environments and possibly take a screenshot of a selected found image.
